Opportunities to use water resources in municipalities
JEŽEK, Mojmír
A serious problem today is the global water shortage. One of the possible solutions for saving water is the retention of rainwater. This thesis discusses water sources, the possibilities of its treatment and, above all, the overall management of water. The goal of the diploma thesis was to evaluate information regarding the use of water resources by households and businesses, to prepare a simplified version of a water audit, to conduct a field investigation with regard to the use and availability of water resources, and to develop a proposal for improving the management of water resources through a questionnaire survey. All goals were developed for the chosen municipality of Vlastějovice.
The water resources of the Nile basin in the context of conflicts and peaceful cooperation
Hošková, Lucie ; Jelen, Libor (advisor) ; Frajer, Václav (referee)
This thesis deals with the issue of water resources in the Nile basin in the context of conflict and peaceful cooperation. The main aim of the work is to assess the hydropolitical potential, whether conflictory or rather cooperative is relevant. Following this goal, subsequently identify the main geopolitical actors in the Nile basin and see if the two tributaries of the Nile, blue and White Nile, differ in terms of hydropolitical potential. The theoretical framework of the work is defined by international-political concepts of neo-realism, i.e. whether disputes are primarily between states in the form of the demarcation of interests and power, or neoliberalism, which presupposes mutual cooperation in the framework of the management of resources. Furthermore, the thesis deals with the definition of the geographical-historical context with a focus on the East African region and the Nile basin following its character and history. A systematic review was chosen as the method of processing this work.
Setup and testing of alpha beta counter NA6201
RÖSZLER, Tomáš
This diploma thesis was focused on the Setup and testing of alpha beta counter NA6201 for measuring alpha and beta activity, which is located in the dosimetric laboratoriy of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies. Since the laboratory was moved to wing H, the equipment has been used for practical education or research sporadically. The theoretical part of this diploma thesis studies aspects of physics related to alpha and beta radiation, its dosimetry, monitoring and the working of detectors. The legal framework of this topic and the research system, resp. monitoring in the Czech Republic is also examined. In the practical part, this diploma thesis focuses on the set up of the NA6201 counter, its setting and measurement of samples. It also includes an assessment of the usability of the device in education and further research. In the practical part, it was found by comparative measurements that the NA6201 device is not able to reliably measure beta activity. The comparative measurement consisted of water samples collection from springs, their processing and determining the total beta volume activity. The Alpha-beta EMPOS EMS 3 automat was used for comparison. Further use of the NA6201 counter is possible only if the identified shortcomings of the current situation are solved, especially the absence of a chemical laboratory with the necessary equipment for sample processing and the absence of a methane cylinder. Proposed possible solutions are moving the device to more suitable premises or retrofitting the laboratory with necessary equipment.
Water Resources Management - Political Support and Financing
BERLOVÁ, Kristýna
The theme of this bachelor thesis is appreciation of financial and political support in the field of water management at two European state level - Czech republic and Slovakia. It especially deals with support of protection against adverse effects of drought in these countries. In the last few years Czech Republic and Slovakia are constantly struggling with drought that already plagues most of the area. Due to these constant drought problems, various possibilities of drawing financial support at national and international level are available. This work describes which sources of support individual states draw. Then, the analysis of the approach of both states is processed. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate and compare the exploitation of financial resources of individual states based on this analysis.
Vývoj krajinného pokryvu a vývoj počtu obyvatelstva v ochranných pásmech vodní nádrže Švihov v letech 1990-2018
ČERVEŇANSKÁ, Karolína
The work deals with the importance of the lanscape, its classification and the development of the landscape and the population in the Czech lands since the middle of the 19th century. It also deals with the water reservoirs in terms of their protection and the impact on the environment. A part of the work is the project part, which is focused on the analysis of the changes in the land cover and the population development in the protection zones of the water reservoir Švihov in the years 1990-2018.
Sustainable Development in Canada in Relation to Oil Sands Developments
Podhola, Adam ; Fiřtová, Magdalena (advisor) ; Anděl, Petr (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate to what extent Canada and Alberta have been fulfilling the principles of sustainable development as they have adopted in the 1990s from the essential U.N. documents - the Brundtland Report and the Rio Declaration- and to what extent both governments failed in providing and enforcing efficient environmental law protection as it is the basic premise for achieving sustainability. I assessed this level of sustainability in Canada and Alberta on the basis of a stronger and weaker sustainability theoretical framework. Author's presumption was that Canada, as it defined sustainable development in its legislation, acted according to stronger sustainability, which emphasizes stronger protective environmental measures. Given a very large scope of environmental impacts of oil extraction on different ecosystems, the sector of water resources was selected to serve as a case study to compare and analyze government and alternative reports assessing the sustainability of water management. Thus, the author follows how the oil industry in Alberta affects the water resources and how both governments of Canada and Alberta provide environmental protection to the water resources. In this respect the author illustrates how the government is reluctant towards the implementation of...
Enviromental Impact of Winter Olympic Games
Podloucký, Josef ; Parry Martínková, Irena (advisor) ; Kolář, František (referee)
Title: Environmental Impact of Olympic Winter Games Objectives: The objective of my bachelor thesis is to evaluate the impact of Olympic Winter Games (OWG) on the environment and vice versa. The work is divided into three parts. The first part has a goal to reflect the development of OG and of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) strategies to sustainable and ecological OWG. The second part is more of natural science account climate development and the use of technologies and their impact on nature. The last part aims to suggest several possible scenarios about future development of OWG. Methods: In the bachelor thesis basic methods of theoretical work are employed, i.e. compilation methods, analysis and synthesis. The employed methods are described in more detail in the Methodology chapter. Results: The result is a research work evaluating the IOC's attitude to climate change and environmental devastation and the impact of climate change on OWG. The evaluation was carried out on the basis of the IOC regulations and a study of expert articles on the ecological demands of winter sports. The conclusion of the thesis offers possible scenarios about the future of the Olympic Games.

The Environmental Issues in the Czech Daily Press: News Coverage of Water Issues
Hanušová, Anna ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Jirků, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis investigates the evolution of news coverage of water-related issues in the Czech daily press from 2014 to 2019. Its theoretical part describes the relationship between mass media and the environment. The characteristics of environmental news are explained more in detail and in the context of environmental topics' features, journalistic routines, news normative demands and economic pressure in the media industry. The topic of the thesis is linked to the media theories about news values, gatekeeping, agenda-setting and framing as well. There is also a review of the studies examining news coverage of the environment and a brief description of the water management situation in the Czech Republic. The methodical part introduces the research goal and previous studies which were used as a base for the method in this paper. The results of the content analysis enabled to describe the news about water issues quantitatively and to explain its features and development according to the theoretical framework and previous findings. This thesis concluded that Czech dailies do not treat the topic of water issues as very important, they are event-oriented, dependent on the official sources and focused on risk-related topics. This can limit public awareness of the problem with decreasing water...
